Ric has been painting and illustrating professionally for over 25 years while successfully balancing a career as an art director and managing his own graphic design shop.
Born in La Rochelle, France, Ric was raised in a military family that lived in several locations in Europe and the United States, finally settling in San Antonio, Texas.
From a very young age, Ric was obsessed with drawing and painting.He attended the Warren Hunter School of Fine Arts in San Antonio, where he focused primarily on watercolor painting. He has also pursued his passion for oil painting, studying with artists such as Jeremy Lipking.
He has great admiration for the art of Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, John Singer Sargent, John Pike, Edward Hopper, Anders Zorn and Richard Schmid.
Ric has received numerous awards for his bold and dramatic watercolor paintings throughout the United States, including Best of Show in Texas and Louisiana, and other awards in Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
He has had articles about his work in Watercolor Artist Magazine, including the cover art, and has been accepted twice in the Splash series of books highlighting the best contemporary watercolor artists.
He has taught many workshops in locations including Fort Worth, New Orleans, Santa Barbara, CA and San Francisco. He also continues to be on the faculty of the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, TX, which will be an accredited art school offering a BFA beginning in 2014.
Ric paints in a representational style, choosing subject matter from his environment and travels. He often chooses mundane subjects, such as abandoned sheds, rusted trucks and architectural ornaments and presents them with a unique perspective. Whether working in watercolor or oils, he strives for a confident and strong work of art. He intensifies colors and value contrasts in order to create work that is fresh, beautiful and full of light.
